Xbox360 Project Natal

Microsoft announced at E3 last year their plans for Project Natal.  Is it just a Wii knock-off or will it be a changer of the game?

Project Natal is a motion control and voice recognition system for the Xbox 360.  People will be able to control there home entertainment using voice commands and gestures.  There won’t even be a need for a traditional controller.  The sensor is a nine inch wide bar consisting of an infrared sensor that allows it to see in 3D in any light condition.  The software technology will allow voice recognition, facial recognition and gesture recognition.  It will also allow tracking and mapping of up to four users at at time from 48 different skeletal point on the human body.

So far Project Natal has gotten pretty good reviews.  The only game that has been tested is the dodgeball game that was demonstrated last year at E3.  The most common complaint is of a slight lag time.

There is a short list of games announced for Project natal with more being announced as we draw closer to its release.  So far there is Paint Party, Meet Milo, Ricochet, Alan Wake and Burnout Paradise.

Sony is releasing a similar item so only time will tell which one will dominate the market.  Both are set to be released during the 2010 holiday.

Getting a Disc Read Error?

Disc errors are very common with all game consoles.  No matter if you have an Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii it will most likely eventually happen.  Don’t sweat!!  It’ll be okay because this is very fixable!  You can first try cleaning it with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol.  Sometimes this fixes the problem, but if not, your laser needs to be replaced.

Check and see if it is under warranty first.  If it is then ship it off to the manufacturer.  If not, then contact a repair company like Wired Extreme.  They can replace the laser for you in less than an hour.  If you’re not local you can ship it in as well.

If you are local then head on in.  We are located in Lewisville, just 15 minutes north of Dallas.

Help Prevent Red Ring of Death

The dreaded “red ring of death” is inevitable in almost all Xbox 360s. It will most likely happen to you one day, but there are ways to prevent it. There is insufficient cooling in the Microsoft Xbox that causes the solder to melt and bridge, thus giving you the RROD.

There are some early warning signs that this may happen to you very shortly. If your screen starts freezing up and your console only responds to being turned on and off, you may be on your way to the red ring of death.

Tips for Preventing:

1. Place console on it’s side. This allows better ventilation.

2. Clean the vents out with canned air every few weeks. You don’t want dust getting trapped in there.

3. Limit your gaming sessions. Playing hours and hours on end will speed up the RROD.

4. Keep the console in an open area. Try to get at least six inches around all sides of the console and never put it on the carpet.

Nintendo Wii

I have to say that I love my Nintendo Wii.  It’s the perfect game for groups of people of all ages.  My friend got Super Mario Bros. for Christmas and we stayed up till 3 am beating the game.  It was a lot of fun.  My girlfriend isn’t in to video games very much and she even enjoyed it.  When moms call in asking what system I recommend   for their family this usually tops my list.  It’s a perfect way to spend quality time together as a family as well as keep the kiddos on their feet and active while they are playing video games.  There are tons of games to choose from with all different types of activity levels.

Wii systems so far haven’t had too many consumer issues.  But like always, if you run into one, go to www.wiredextreme.com or call 214-222-5788.  We can help you out if your system is out of warranty.  We can repair your Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, or any other console!  We offer quality work at affordable prices.

Yellow Light of Death

Sometimes when a PS3 overheats it gets the “yellow light of death.”  When the system overheats it causes the solder on the board to melt and bridge.  This is extremely common and fixable so don’t panic!  If your system is still under warranty contact Sony.  They will usually fix this for you or send you a refurbished console.  If not, you should contact a professional repair company.  Don’t ever attempt the tricks you see online suck as the “towel trick” or “penny trick.”  Those might get your system up and running but it won’t last very long and ultimately causes more harm than good.

You can go to www.wiredextreme.com and set up a repair online.  Our turnaround time is extremely fast and we use professional equipment.  We are located in Lewisville, Texas just 20 minutes North of Dallas.

Board Repair Process

“Yellow light of death” and “red ring of death” are usually caused when the game console overheats .  Once this happens it shorts out the unit causing the solder on the board to melt and bridge.  One way to help prevent this from happening is to keep your console well ventilated.  Try to have at least six inches of open space on every side of the unit.  Also try keeping the vents clean of any dust or debris.

If it’s already too late and you have “yyod” or “rrod”  then contact us here at Wired Extreme!  We take pride in our work here and do everything we can to fix the problem and to keep it from happening again.

We have a long process to ensure maximum repair and customer service.

1. We diagnose the problem over the phone and go over options with you.

2. You can then either drop off your PS3 or Xbox at the store if you are here local to the Dallas area or you can have it shipped in.  All of our board repairs include shipping!

3.  All repairs include a system cleaning and a 90 day warranty on the whole console and not just what was repaired.

4.  Repairs usually take from 1-3 days and then our shipped back to the customer.

5.  Most units dropped off at our Lewisville store have a same day turn around time.

If you have any questions about repairs or even just game console questions in general feel free to call 214-222-5788!
